Martial arts mats are an incredible investment for your gym. It's even fair to say they are necessary. Yet some people have issues with the overall cost of the mats at first glance. It's true, they are an investment, but you absolutely need quality mats to train safely and keep a high level of performance. That leads us to used martial arts mats. Are they worth it? Should you buy used mats for your training space? It's something we do deal in at ZEBRA; we often have lightly used tournament mats for sale after major events. Here are the pros and cons of buying used mats.
The Pros of Used Martial Arts Mats
- Used mats are definitely less expensive: you will not have to pay as much as if you were buying new mats.
- Save on shipping. We often sell used mats at the events we go to. You can pick them up there and save on shipping costs.
- You get them right away. No waiting, just pick them up right away from the event.
- If you don't pick them up, we will ship them to you!
The Cons of Used Martial Arts Mats
- You cannot finance them (see more information on financing below
- They are not brand new (it's an obvious con, but you will see some minor initial wear and tear on them). Our mats come from weekend tournaments, so they will have some mileage on them, if only for a few days.
- You don't get that new "mat" feeling. Just like buying a used car, you get the feeling of pulling the plastic off your new purchase.
- Fewer color options. What we have in mat colors is all we offer.
